Today we did our usual jobs like recycling bottles, paper and ink cartridges. We also did some litter picking in the beautiful sunshine. Yeah! We also updated the blog which you can odiously tell because you are reading it. We hope you liked it and please leave some comments, please, please, please.

Today Eco Warriors is back on and the usual jobs are being done, recycling paper, plastic bottles, ink cartage's and mobile phones. Unfortunately the Eco Blog will not be updated for two weeks because next week is the school's parent's night and the week after that the Primary 7's are going on a trip. :)

It's the first Tuesday back after the Easter Holidays and because of that Eco Warriors is not on today but the work of looking after the world is never over, so Sarah, Emma and Bethany, 3 primary 7 Eco Warriors are going round the school and doing all the recycling that needs doing.
They are also updating the Eco blog so that you can keep updated with all the work we do to help make our school an Eco friendly place.

Today our friend Jim came along to see us with all his gardening tools to help us tidy up and re-plant all the flowers in the tyre at the front of the school. As we were pulling out all the weeds and dead plants we found lots of potatoes that we planted last year, some were small and squashed but most of them were big and healthy. Sarah and Emma popped out all the new blue and yellow plants( Woodhill colours) to plant in tyre. Hopefully in the next couple of months they will start to flower and look marvellous and funky.

Today we have started recycling cardboard so if you have any old cardboard boxes that you don't need then put them in the bins sitting next to the cafeteria. Also we have entered March and we are hoping that we will get some better weather. So far we have had really bad, windy and rainy weather. As usual we have done are normal jobs such as, recycling paper+ bottles, litter picking and saving energy. And the tidiest playground was a draw between Primary 2 and Primary 3.

Back from our holidays!!!

Welcome back to Eco Warriors 2009. We have been very busy trying to stop the school being taking over by rubbish. During the period of Eco Warriors not being on this generally happens. There has been alot of Rubbish and recycling paper to be cleared.

We are now collecting Morrisons voucher. Eco warriors will come round to collect them. If you have any please give it to your child and we will hpoefully get a wheelbarrow, seeds and some kids gardening gloves.

Miss Young registered our school on the Morrisons Let's Grow website and there is now a photo of our school on their UK map.

Let's try and get 500 vouchers!!!

Eco has just started back after the summer. WE now have 13 new members in the club. We are still recycling bottles, paper, mobile phones and ink cartridges.We now have two new members in the school one is Winky and one is Inky.Winky is in the infant area he also eats ink cartridges.Winky is a girl. Inky is in Primary 7 Room 13 and is a boy (Winky's brother).

This week we appointed some Eco warriors who will go round the classes after school and check that all lights and computers are switched off when not in use. Hopefully this will help to save money and energy in our school!

The litter pickers are still going on a weekly litter hunts and unfortunately they have been finding lots of litter in our playground, pupils must try harder to start putting litter in the bin.

Today was our party for the end of Eco-warriors and i was so fun. We had millions of sweets and other unhealthy food. Some people brought in Cd's and everyone was dancing and singing along to all the songs. We were also asked to bring in something green to wear but by accident Emma and I brought the same top to wear it was so funny.

Today was our second last day of Eco- warriors and every one was very sad but we had to get on with things. Most of the hour was spent on a big summer clean up doing things like watering the plants, taking Eco pictures home and lots more. For the last 5 or 10 minutes all of the Eco- warriors filled in a surrey about what they enjoyed and what they would change. I wouldn't change anything.

Today Miss Young, Miss Horn and the rest of the Eco- warriors decided that it would be a good idea if we didn't just recycle white paper but recycled coloured paper as well. We also thought it would be a good idea if we gave each class a white bag to put their recycled paper in once their green box was full.

Today we replanted each classes sunflowers and gave them all a water. We also did our daily litter pick up and paper recycling. Some of the Eco- Warriors also went on the computer searched for some Eco facts. Some weeks two Community Support Officers come to help but this week three came. This week at Eco we all had great fun!

Today some children came up with ideas for fundraising to buy a game called digital discoveries. They came up with ideas such as a green day, an Eco fayre, painting plant pots and lots more. The rest of the activities we did were just the usual ones like recycling paper, recycling bottles and litter picking.

Miss Young came up with the idea of a sunflower competition for all the classes to take part in.
The aim of the competition was to grow the tallest sunflower out of all the classes. Some Eco-warriors planted the sunflower seeds into mini pots while others designed posters for the classes. The next day some children were picked to hand the classes their sunflowers, a poster and a set of instructions. At the moment the sunflowers are getting along fine and are just starting to grow.

Jim broght in some shrubs for us to plant beside our football pitch. This area is often full of litter so we thought that we would plant these to brighten up this area. We used a spade to make a T shape in the soil and pushed the cuttings in deep. Then we stamped down hard on the ground. Hopefully these will start to grow soon.

Today our friend Jim bought us a old tyre from a tractor. He works for landservices and said we could reuse the tyre. We planted Ivy, Bluebells and Hyacinths in this and he told us that these would flower in March. It took lots of compost and hard work but it was worth it because it will really brighten up in March.

We have won our second green flag which will be flying out side the front door of the school.We will be returning on the 5th Febuary.Also we got a talk about litter from a Litter warden who has taught the whole school about dropping litter.We also get jobs at eco-warriors like litter picking, collecting bottles and white paper. Today Miss Young taught Rebecca and Kevin how to blog.

Rebecca and Adam carried out an environmental audit. This will help us decide what areas we need to improve on.

The litter pickers were very disopointed because the playground was full of litter.

We recycled two bags of white paper.

Today the weather was nice so we decided to do some planting. We put these near the front entrance of the school and look forward to seeing them grow.

The recycling bins were very full because last Monday was a holiday so Rachel and Laura emptied these and managed to collect 4 bags of plastic bottles.Bethany and Sarah also emptied the paper boxes which were also very full.

Today was a busy week and we got a lot of things done.

Weekly Diary - 16/04/07

Today was the first Eco warriors meeting since the Easter Holidays. The weather has been really good so Mr Lunan took us outside where we watered the plants. We were also looking at places where we can do some planting over the next few weeks (if the weather stays nice!)

We collected all the paper to be recycled and emptied the recycling bins which were full of bottles.

Our green flag has fallen down due to the windy weather!! We have it safe in the office and will try to have it back up flying in front of the school very soon.

Hopefully we will be able to get outside next week if the weather is good and we can collect litter from all the playgrounds.

We have been looking at how using electricity can effect global warming. This happens because when coal and oil are burned, it creates pollution and this can damage the ozone layer.
Some children made posters which we will display in the school and this will encourage children and staff to save electricity in our school.

We have been encouraging classes to collect white paper in their green boxes. Every Monday four children go round the classrooms and collect the paper to be recycled. It is important that people only put white paper in the boxes because we can not recycle coloured paper.

Eco Warriors Week 2 (29.1.07)

Today we collected rubbish and for the first time we wore bibs. Some children went round the classes and counted all the taps in the school and we compared our electricity meter from last week. Children also collected the paper, phones, ink-cartridges and bottles. We are typing news on the computer from our trip which was on the first week on our school newspaper. We are going to write on a white board on our Eco wall for other children to see what we have done. Some children packed all of the ink cartridges to send for money for the school.

The eco warriors met today for the first time this year. We had lots of recycling to catch up on including bottles and paper. We also counted ink cartridges and mobile phones and some people watered the plants.

This year we will be looking for ways to save elecricity and water and this will hopefully save the school some money.

Today, we wrote letters to all the classes in the school to thank them for taking part in Green Day. We raised over £310.00.
